3 Web site makeovers that sizzle

Whether you already have a Web site for your business or are contemplating building one, you should consider ways to make your site stand out from your competition. There are key things your Web site MUST do in order to be useful to your visitors. But what about unique features that will increase overall visitor “stickiness” and drive repeat visits?

Here are 3 Web sites that include features that not only are unique and memorable, but also create interactivity and have proven to help drive traffic to the sites.

1. The guest book in this site invites customers to share photos of their home featuring purchases from the client’s cottage shop. When customers visit the site to upload photos, they are also informed of upcoming events and promotions.

2. The blog in this Web site invites interested residents to post their comments and read what others say about subjects, designed to be updated regularly. A link to the blog is included in news releases and e-blasts to further drive traffic to the site.

3. This site’s interactive map helps visitors locate an apartment, download a rental application, view floor plans and even change address, register to vote and sign up for utilities. The site’s traffic reports show that visitors are regularly going to these resources.

PR Briefs is a blog of tips, resources and case studies for the public relations professional and the PR novice. Feel free to comment, re-post or ask questions—I hope you enjoy your experience here.

PR and marketing have been the focus of my career for the past 30 years. As an ad agency client during the early years, I got to experience a birds-eye view of agencies and the experience wasn't always a good one. When Ideaworks opened in 1995, we were determined to break the mold, and after 15 years, more than 300 awards and hundreds of client referrals, I think we're starting to get there.
