5 PR tools for your Web site

During the process of developing new Web sites for our clients, we talk to them in depth about their goals, objectives and expectations for their new site, and we recommend a number of Web site tools that can be incorporated as the site is being built. When included in the initial design, these tools can cost-effectively supplement and enhance their public relations and marketing efforts for years to come. Here are our top five Web site PR tools:

1. An online newsroom to include events, news releases, PR contacts and company information, along with an email link directly to the PR manager.

2. Site analytics to measure traffic and viewing patterns of visitors to the site. Analytics can show Web site traffic in response to ads, e-blasts and news coverage.

3. Links to associated social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

4. A easy, short sign-up form to capture information from interested visitors (potential clients, media).

5. A content-management system so that updates can be made regularly. A stale site keeps search engine visibility, and visitor interest, low.

PR Briefs is a blog of tips, resources and case studies for the public relations professional and the PR novice. Feel free to comment, re-post or ask questions—I hope you enjoy your experience here.

PR and marketing have been the focus of my career for the past 30 years. As an ad agency client during the early years, I got to experience a birds-eye view of agencies and the experience wasn't always a good one. When Ideaworks opened in 1995, we were determined to break the mold, and after 15 years, more than 300 awards and hundreds of client referrals, I think we're starting to get there.
